Playing Church

I was saved at an early age,
my parents took me to church.
Had a bible of my very own,
but in it did not search.
As a teen I wanted to know,
what the world had to offer.
When I found those earthly things,
they caused me greatly to suffer.

The Lord gave me peace of mind,
when the word I did search.
As I was praying He gave me faith,
to stop just playing church.

I married a wonderful girl,
had children, became a dad.
When they did not do as i said,
it would make me very mad.
I was going to church each Sunday,
teaching a Sunday school class.
Someone hurt me badly,
no more church, I would pass.

As I was praying He gave me faith,
to stop just playing church.

The Holy Spirit convicted me,
I was very wrong.
Not going to the House of Prayer,
would keep me from growing strong.
I started back going to church,
applied the word to my spirit.
I'm now "on fire" for the lord,
and all the world will hear it.
